Welcome to Currock Community Centre

About Us

Currock Community Centre was built in 1842 and is a beautiful Victorian and Grade II Listed Building. On 6 October 1934, it was handed over to be run as a community centre; it was one of the first community centres in England and the very first one of its kind in Carlisle.

We are located on Lediard Avenue in the heart of Currock; within walking distance of the City centre, a Stagecoach bus passes right by the door and we are 10 minutes from Carlisle Railway Station.

We are a hive of activity and offer a wide range of recreations to cover all ages from babies to seniors. Our groups focus on health and wellbeing, culture, education, social, support and good old fashion fun. We also offer rooms, offices and halls to hire.

Please also check our Facebook page for up to date groups and events.

ACT Youth Theatre provides young people with a place to have fun while learning about the world of theatre. Based in Currock Community Centre in Carlisle and Penrith Rugby Club in Penrith we offer classes in acting, singing and dance for ages 8-18. As a family business, we aim to create a supportive environment in which our students can feel comfortable to explore their creative potential, building confidence and making new friends. The performing arts skills that our students will learn are a useful tool for everyday life: helping to develop social skills, public speaking, encouraging independence, team work and an awareness of others.

We are committed to raising the aspirations of our students and awakening their creative talent.

Each year we stage two shows: a full scale musical theatre production in summer and a christmas ACTstravagansa. This gives students opportunity to experience performing in a theatre environment, gaining knowledge and understanding of how a show is put together.

Beaver Scouts are young people usually aged between six and eight years old. They belong to the first and youngest Section in the Scouting family. Young people can join Beaver Scouts in the three months leading up to their sixth birthday. They can move to the next Section, Cub Scouts, between seven years and six months and eight years six months.

Easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beaver Scouts enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits and helping others. They usually meet together once a week in a Beaver Scout Colony.

Some Beaver Scout Colonies also organise Sleepovers. These are often the first time a young person spends a night away from home. They take place in suitable buildings, often Scout centres.

Bounce is the world’s leading mini trampoline fitness brand, founded in 2014 by Kimberlee Perry, brought to life with the main aim of making fitness fun and more accessible for everyone.

Routines are performed to banging tunes in a welcoming, motivating, environment. On a Thursday night, we encourage a social space where you can make friends or even bring your children along while you workout too – we’re proud to have pioneered the ‘child-friendly’ fitness movement and pride ourselves on operating an inclusive FUN FRIENDLY FIERCE nightclub vibe.

((BOUNCE)) improves weight loss up to 3 times faster than floor-based exercise due to the addition of gravity and g-force, it builds core strength quickly, is a cellular workout and detoxifies the body efficiently thanks to the lymphatic system being pumped as we jump. There’s oodles of scientific research on the health benefits of rebounding, but most impressively we’re aiming to lose over 700 calories per session, and have fun of course… that’s what trampolines were made for!

Scouting is one of the great success stories of the last 100 years. From an experimental camp for 20 boys on Brownsea island in 1907, it has spread to 216 countries and territories, with an estimated 28 million members.

Cubs is the second section of the Scouting movement, originally started in 1916 for younger brothers who wanted a ‘look-in’. In nearly a century, the section has constantly evolved and adapted its programme and methods to meet the changing needs of each generation of young people, and these days admits girls as well as boys.

Cubs take part in a wide range of activities designed to be interesting and challenging. A Cub Scout meeting consists of games and activities with plenty of time spent outdoors.

Camps and holidays are some of the most memorable events of the year for Cubs.

Ringcraft training only – ringcraft is the training of both handler and dog to be ready for the showring. It takes dedicated practice to build the skills and rapport that are necessary. This group will give you all the experience you need to help you improve your ring craft skills whilst having a lot of fun along the way. We will show you how to improve your handling skills and how to present your dog in the best way possible. You will work together, improve together and build a special rapport together. You will both enjoy the training and your dog will want to partake for you. It will also be an important part of socialising your dog and getting it used to interacting with different people and other dogs. It will learn how to behave in the show ring and make it confident in accepting examination by a judge.

Our training will benefit novice and experienced show exhibitors alike and will provide you with a thorough training basis for both you and your dog, whether you actually show or not!

A force to be reckoned with, Townswomen play a pivotal role in communicating important national issues to governmental bodies and the media. Since its inception in 1929, members have collectively voiced their concerns to change and improve the livelihoods of women, something that is still pursued as passionately as ever. Members offer each other support and stability in an increasingly fragmented society. Thousands of members across the country play an active role in their communities and work tirelessly to raise funds for a variety of causes. In addition, Townswomen are actively involved in a wide range of public affairs issues and effectively lobby local MPs to advance the well-being of society as a whole.

Alongside all this worthy and serious work, members nationwide have plenty of time for friendship and fun. Townswomen enjoy a huge range of recreational activities such as talks, social studies, hobbies, arts & crafts, competitions, socialising and organised trips.

So join today and become part of the camaraderie and friendship that goes with being a member of the Townswomen’s Guilds.
