Welcome to Denton Holme Community Centre

About Us

Denton Holme Community Centre is situated in the heart of Denton Holme and is a real hub for the community. We are proud to be a diverse and representative organisation that has grown out of the local community, working with local people and organisations that act to make improvements across our neighbourhood.

The Centre is available for use by all residents of Denton Holme and the surrounding district. We offer a wide range of facilities and activities and we also hire out the main hall, lounge, conference room and kitchen at an affordable price.

The Community Centre itself is used by a range of service providers with a good base of regular bookings and organised activities which complement the existing community offer. This includes Cumbria County Council Library Service, Family Action, working with younger pre-school children, and health and well-being classes such as exercise and self-defence classes. The centre itself organises an annual Summer Holiday Playscheme for the first two weeks of the holiday. We have a popular Luncheon Club for the elderly and isolated members of the community and the kitchen is also used by disabled groups.

Pilates – Bumps & Beyond weekly from 5.15pm – 6.00pm and 6.10pm – 7.00pm

Pilates aims to strengthen the body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and wellbeing. Pilates exercises are done on a mat or using special equipment, such as the Reformer, the Cadillac and Wunda Chair. With its system of pulleys and springs, handles and straps, the apparatus can provide either resistance or support, depending on your needs.

Pilates was developed by German-born Joseph Pilates, who believed mental and physical health were closely connected. His method was influenced by western forms of exercise, including gymnastics, boxing and Greco-Roman wrestling. Pilates immigrated to the US in the 1920s and opened a studio in New York, where he taught his method – which he called contrology
